π How to Pray Using the Lord’s Prayer
Did you know that Jesus taught us a special way to pray? This prayer is called the Lord’s Prayer! Let's learn step by step how to pray as Jesus taught us — in a simple and loving way.
π What Is the Lord’s Prayer?
The Lord’s Prayer is a prayer taught by Jesus during the Sermon on the Mount, found in Matthew 6:9–13. Jesus showed us how to speak to God with love, respect, and trust.
π Psalm 145:18
“The Lord is near to all who call on Him, to all who call on Him in truth.”
✡️ Step 1: Praise and Thank God
π Matthew 6:9 – “Our Father in heaven...”
π Matthew 6:9 – “Our Father in heaven...”
Begin by recognizing that God is our loving, powerful, and good Father! You can say things like:
-
“Lord, You are wonderful!”
-
“You care for me with such love!”
-
“Thank You, my God, for all You’ve given me!”
π Step 2: Honor God’s Name
π Matthew 6:9 – “Hallowed be Your name”
π Matthew 6:9 – “Hallowed be Your name”
God’s name is special! Let’s respect and honor it with our lives.
-
“I want to honor Your name with my actions.”
-
“Help me live in a way that pleases You!”
π£️ Step 3: Ask for God’s Kingdom to Come
π Matthew 6:10 – “Your kingdom come”
π Matthew 6:10 – “Your kingdom come”
This means we desire God’s love to rule in our lives and the world! Pray like this:
-
“May Your Kingdom come, Lord!”
-
“I want to be part of Your plans, even when it’s hard.”
✝️ Step 4: Do God’s Will
π Matthew 6:10 – “Your will be done...”
π Matthew 6:10 – “Your will be done...”
We ask God for strength to obey, even when it’s difficult. Say:
-
“I want to do what You want, Lord!”
-
“Teach me to follow Your path.”
π Step 5: Thank and Ask for What We Need
π Matthew 6:11 – “Give us today our daily bread”
π Philippians 4:6 – “In everything, by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
π Matthew 6:11 – “Give us today our daily bread”

First, give thanks:
-
“Thank You for my home, food, family, and health!”
-
“Thank You for the small joys in my day!”
Then, ask with faith:
-
“Lord, help me with what I’m going through...”
-
“I need strength, courage, or help with [insert your request].”
❤️ Step 6: Ask for Forgiveness and Forgive
π Matthew 6:12 – “Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors”
π 1 John 1:9 – “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us.”
π Matthew 6:12 – “Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors”
π 1 John 1:9 – “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us.”
Say:
-
“God, forgive me for my mistakes.”
-
“I forgive those who hurt me. Help me love as You love.”
Also, pray for your family: parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, and past generations. And don’t forget: forgiving yourself is important too!
π‘️ Step 7: Ask for Protection
π Matthew 6:13 – “And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil”
π Matthew 6:13 – “And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil”
Ask God to guard you from evil and help you make good choices. Say:
-
“Protect me, Lord!”
-
“Help me say no to evil and yes to good!”
